Like Milk & Blood
In Like Milk & Blood, Canadian artist Amanda Nedham has used her mythical powers of transformation to turn ordinary creatures and objects into mighty, forceful beings that – believe it or not – have been around us since we invaded this world.
I am absolutely drawn to these images because they show us a different side of nature and our environment. To me – Like Milk & Blood – mixes dual attributes of both beauty and fear, power and frailness, reality and nightmares.
Something that I find really interesting – and funny – is that some people consider her work to be “masculine” – someone even told her at one of her openings that she “draws fabric like a man” – Whoever the dude or dudette was, he or she were probably jealous that they can’t pull off such powerful work {they probably have sketches of “My little pony” with dreads and thought they were edgy}.
Whether you sketch little ponies or paint full-size juggernaut teddy bears – Amanda’s work will inspire you and push you to take a different look at your surroundings. She has been praised for transmitting these emotions through her drawings in Toronto, Florence and New York {holy lala! and she is on the Gbox??! so stoked for that}.
I am really excited to be able to feature her on the blog. Thank you Amanda for such amazing creations and for letting us swim in your world of mythical taxonomy {this post has so many words that I haven’t said since grade 12 *dusting brain*}
Go get some wine, kick back and enjoy!
