GIVEAWAY CLOSED – THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING!
Hey, I got something special for you!
We all know Canadians are awesome (don’t be jealous of their boogie) and so are you guys. That’s why I am giving away three $40 gift certificates for Gelaskins! A rad Canadian gang of awesome people.
The Artful Desperado is all about art and creativity – so I wanted to get you something that would inspire you, something you could carry with you all the time, wherever you go – like your phone. I mean let’s be real, your phone is your best buddy – you take it to parties, to church, to bed and even to the bathroom (don’t lie to me, I know you txt while you have a bm).
Use this opportunity to choose a skin/case that will serve you as daily inspiration. With these certificates you can get one for you or maybe one for your buddies. You can select a design from Gelaskins’ gallery or you can create your own – a few ideas could be: your own art work, a picture of your family and friends, your blog’s logo or even your cat!
Before I tell you how you can win one of these certificates I want to remind you to ALWAYS keep your blogging antennas out – connect with people, create new relationships and surround yourself with friends that love what you do. This is how lots of amazing creative projects get started.
Two ways to win:
1: Tweet a message to your community and tell them what you’d like to showcase in your new skin. Include the tag #ArtfulDesperado on the message so I can track it or add me on the tweet. Here are a couple of examples:
a -I want my skin to showcase my awesome art! #ArtfulDesperado
b -I want my skin to showcase my sexy cat @ArtfulDesperado
OR
2: Leave a comment below with your answer to the following question: if you could use your case/skin as a tribute to someone that inspires you, who would it be? – Make sure to leave your contact info so I can get a hold of you. Here’s an example using my own:
I’ve always been inspired by my parents – by their love and dedication.
You have until Friday Feb 10th to enter. I’ll randomly select 3 winners which will be announced on the following Monday right here on the blog.
Get creative, nourish your community and showcase your love for art.
Thanks Dayna for helping me out on this one (see, it’s all about the people!). Don’t forget to share this with your friends.

If I could highlight my muse onto my iPhone case it would be a combination of a shout out to my parents & my love of music. I’d have my Dad handwrite my favourite lyrics to be made into a custom Gelaskins case.

My case would be of my favorite musicians EVERFOUND and the picture would be one my husband took of them. Our own art of our favorite people, couldn’t be better

If I could have any image I wanted on a Gelaskin, I would want one of the paitings by Martiros Saryan, because it will always remind me of where I come from.

lately i’ve been incredibly inspired by other students in my graduate program working on international development and their passion – and my love of Africa. i would want a cover that reminds me of my long-term inspiration as i finish my MA program.

I would like my case to have a retro picture of my parents. It could be a nice way to have them closer.

I am inspired by my husband, by his love and enthusiasm for all things creative

My own photography and art is inspired by some of the old Italian artists- the AMAZING use of light in paintings by Caravaggio and Bernini’s wicked sense of humor in his art. They also remind me of my year spent in Rome!

My husband inspires me daily: he embodies such an amazing dichotomy of strength, bravery, and masculinity (he’s a US Marine Corps Infantryman) – and he’s also creative, artistic, sensitive. When we make art together, he’s always willing to jump into a new medium, and he’s always able to teach me so much. He’s much better at drawing than I am. We paint, draw, craft – at Xmas we handmade cards to bring to a local nursing home, and my husband made these incredible cut outs, free-handing all his designs.
I love him so very much, I’m blessed to have such a wonderful man.
So I’d want my case to remind me of him – something that’s a dichotomy in itself, both square and fluid.
(I hope my answer makes sense. Sorry to prattle on and on!)

that’s beautiful!

thank you!!
i keep trying to think of what kind of design or pattern would be a nice embodiment of two opposites, a happy dichotomy… any suggestions?

I have a board with ideas http://pinterest.com/gabrielgbox/pattern/ maybe something in there could guide your way!
happyhippierose says
Oh, I Pinterest-stalked you earlier today and re-pinned a ton of your stuff. I didn’t have time to go through your “patterns” board yet though. Thank you SO MUCH! I’m going to sift through your pinned patterns tmrw (probably during work conference calls, heh).

My “dream” phone cover would have the architecture of Barcelona. I studied abroad there in college, and it was one of the most profound experiences of my life. It was a unique opportunity to learn about myself and my place in the world. I’ve never felt so inspired and free. I’d like my phone to be a constant reminder of that time in my life and a source of inspiration!
Thai Khan says
I feel inspired by those who imagine incredible worlds and characters and bring them to life, if I could use my telephone case to make a tribute for them I would use a image of Andy Kehoe or Remedios Varo (whose paints are not in Gelaskins but I really love her).

My Dad is my inspiration. He has always encouraged and supported me in my journey of becoming an artist. He’s a true Renaissance Man- an engineer who taught me to love books, nature, the arts, good food, and approach life with a spirit of discovery. Most of all, he just made me feel valued, always listening and spending time with me as I grew up and into adulthood. I recently wrote about him on my blog and made an artwork in his honor:

Thanks for your inspiring blog and the opportunity to share!

I love the collage you made for your Dad! I clicked over and checked it out. What a lovely project.

After much thought, my case would be a tribute to my sister Kaitlin. Coming from a family of three girls and an awesome parental unit it was hard to decide which of the four inspired me most – because they all do! My sister’s personality is a combination of all of ours but at the same time none of ours. She’s quirky and unique but cool. She’s beautiful, geeky, intimidatingly smart, curious, stubborn and compassionate. She has a hilarious dry sense of humor that can make you feel both happy and belittled at the same time.
I imagine the design of the case would be a wonderfully organized mess of cartoons, words, numbers, colourful shots of the world and thought provoking portraits in black and white. Like her complex brain this case would have a deeper meaning and need to be decoded or pieced together like a puzzle. Just by being herself she’s taught me so much. Ah yes, she’d be the perfect case!

I am always inspired by Joan Miro. His paintings keep me going! also Frida Kahlo- but I have to say that If I had to look at one painting every day- I would want it to be a miro. so imma go with that. :)

I will always be inspired by dreamy illustrators—Becca Stadtlander being one of my favorites. I would love to have an amazing illustrated phone skin/case—to push me to try and draw everyday.

I would tribute mine to my 8 year old niece, who reminds me constantly what a joy it is to have an imagination… I sometimes think when we get older we become too restricted by everyday and forget to let our mind fly. So thank you Stephanie (who is currently a pink and purple striped octopus called Hannah!) for letting me share your journeys.

Generally, I tend to be inspired more by places than by people, though I must say I am always touched and inspired by seeing the world through my husband’s eyes. When I find myself growing cynical or overcome by a been-there-done-that attitude, I only have to look through his eyes and see and feel freshly excited by people, places and things.
