Hey guys just dropping by to share a few film scans I got back from my Norway trip in the summer.
For this trip I decided to leave my digital camera behind, which at first it felt a little bit stressful since that’s my main tool of work, but instead I decided to use my new Fuji GA645 (120 film) which I got on Ebay a few months ago. The camera is mostly a point and shoot (which in medium format terms is a bit more rare to find). The reason why I chose medium format point and shoot was because of ease of use, I literally wanted to see something I like and snap it and move on.
I did quite a bit of research about different cameras and this one in particular caught my eye because of the great integrated light meter which is pretty accurate. However, if you wanted to go full manual, you can totally do it (the camera has a manual mode, not as user friendly but totally works fine).
The film I used for this trip was portra 400 which is super flexible in different light situations, especially when traveling through a moody destination like Norway; one minute it’s sunshine and rainbows, the next is a crazy rain storm with thunder and all.
I honestly really enjoyed having this camera as my main tool because I became quite picky about which scenes to shoot, since medium format film is more expensive, you don’t want to blow it on some “insta” looking stuff (use your phone for that).
Oh and you could argue that the camera is not super light to haul around (I think it’s about 750gr ish in weight or 1.6 ish pounds), but I got a super thick strap attached to it and didn’t bother me at all. Way better than a mamiya 645 or Hassleblad, which I also own and was so annoyed to carry around, especially if you don’t have a car to haul all your shit around.
I am really excited to use it again for a few other trips coming up and I’ll start experimenting with food photography and other editorial projects. If you have any comments or questions about this camera let me know! totally happy to share the knowledge.
