This morning I woke up and made my green smoothie and, as per usual , I added some weird herb to it, this time I added Kelp powder, which I purchased yesterday for $2.30 a bag, what a deal ! I also added some Spirulina and it looked pretty good. As I was about to drink it , I thought…hmm.. I have all these stuff at home that I eat or use but I havent really read about their benefits. So here, I give you the 3 top nutritional items of this week:
- Spirulina
- Kelp powder
- Chia seeds
Meet: Miss SPIRULINA
Don’t let this green velvety lady deceive you with her musky smell. She is POWERFUL. Ok, Spirulina is almost 80% protein , that is a lot of protein, ( compared to beef which is like 20% protein and 80% flesh and suffering) . It also has 26 times more calcium than milk !! this will help you reduce the amount of cow juice you drink everyday.
Lastly, it helps digestion, helps you lose weight, cleans your guts, fights disease, prevents anemia and makes your smoothie bright green! which will have people eating a donut saying ” Dang! you are healthy”. So as you can see, Spirulina ain’t your usual one-night-stand, this lady is a keeper.
Dose: 2 teaspoons a day. Give it a try!
Meet: Mister CHIA SEED
This hunk has great stats: 25% protein, 30% oil, 25% fiber and 25% sex appeal. It is said that Chia is one of the richest source of Omega-fatty acids and it’s packed with vitamin B, C , E , Calcium and boron (good for your brain, so you can stop having breakdowns at work) better than your expensive face cream and crazy pills don’t you think?
It also helps you keep a healthy weight, makes your heart happy and will boost your metabolism (no more fartex! ) . Let this fella take you in his arms and make your insides joyful.
Dose: 1 – 2 tablespoons a day. You can sprinkle it on yogurt, salads, fruit or just mix it with water and chug it down!
Meet: the rebel, KELP POWDER
Fishy, seaweedy and salty. This bad boy, rough and all, is amazing. Kelp has tons of minerals, some people even take it instead of their daily supplements. But it doesn’t stop there, he has this cool property that will absorb heavy metals in your body and clean your insides. It also bulks up in your intestines so it will loosen up and get rid of all the old crap stuck in there (a.k.a. tim Hortons and Wendy’s crust layers) AND it helps fight acne, eczema, hair loss, weak nails and infections. Good god, who wants a dose of this gangsta!
Dose: 1 teaspoon (if you are a dare-devil add more) . It tastes a LOT like the ocean. So do not add 1 heap tablespoon like I did to my smoothie this morning, otherwise your mouth will taste like you just had a hardcore make out session with Poseidon. Maybe try the tablets, I’ve heard they are easier to take.
Alright! go and get some of these goodies and start getting ready to show some healthy skin for the summer.
Cheers!
