Whoa. This painting caught me off guard.
Alex Roulette and his series Fabricated Realism are just off the charts. I love when artists bring back classic techniques with a twist – in this case Alex’s oil paintings depict “fabricated American landscapes” where the main characters aren’t some posing kings and queens – the main characters are real citizens, friends playing with fireworks, buddies flying kites and teens causing trouble.
If you look at it this way – they are the kings and queens of their own territory; skaters, bikers and pool-party royalty.
I love the “goofy” feel in each painting where life is not taken too seriously – these are just young fellas having fun, nothing else. Isn’t that what life is all about? If you want to know more about Fabricated Realism in Alex’s words, just click here
Come on everybody, let’s do a hip hip hooray for Alex Roulette!

This is why I like following a man-blogger (mogger?). I occasionally read a lot of blogs, mostly curated/written/whatever you’d like to call it by women and I do love them. However, there’s a refreshing slant to the things you find and share. Thanks for introducing me to a new painter. I love it. My daughter (16) and I have recently started collaborating with me doing children’s fashion photography and then her painting the images. A few of these have that exact feeling.
(sorry, I’m rambling)

Andrea! That sounds amazing – involving your kids in creative projects is the way to go. Sounds like creativity runs in the veins of your family. I’m super happy you’re enjoying the blog, thanks so much for your compliments – comments like this are what makes blogging so so special. Have a wonderful weekend (and do share the outcome of your family collaboration!).
