Ay caramba! DUDE I haven’t seen you in while. How you doin’? How’s your fall so far? Are you already sipping pumpkin spiced lattes? Are you jumping on piles of dried golden leaves that make that delicious ‘crunch-crunch’ sound when you step on them? Are you at home squeezing a pimple?
If you said yes to any of the above, then I assume you are having a joyful Fall time. If you didn’t , then what are you waiting for? Next thing you know you are wrapping gifts and hanging ornaments.
Before we jump to the art. I want to share something with you – even if you don’t care. I AM FUCKING TIRED. School has drained the crap outta me. FUCK IT’S HARD TO BE A STUDENT AGAIN. You know, back in the day when we didn’t have to pay bills, cook, clean, go to work, etc – you LOVED going to school, ok maybe not LOVED but at least you somewhat liked it, even if it was just to skip class.
I went back to school with the best attitude and with fond memories of my joyous student days – now I have a mouth full of bitter ashes left by the rapid soul-combustion of my human energy which cannot be replenished as fast as I thought thanks to a little thing called adulthood. Adulthood, go F yourself in the A. Seriously, how can people do this AND have children.
On the positive side, I did learn new stuff and it felt good to get my brain active in different ways – other than refreshing my Pinterest feed. One MAJOR benefit of taking a few continuing studies classes is that you can try the things you think you “like”. For instance, before I enrolled in this Graphic and Web Design program I thought “DUDE I want to learn this so bad, I want to create cool stuff using my computer!!” and yes indeed I do want to create cool stuff, but not with my eyes glued to a computer and with lines and lines of crazy looking HTMLWhatTheFuck language. I HIGHLY respect Graphic and Web Designers; you guys are total troopers and I will leave you and your super-formated-fibber-optic brains do the amazing task of creating dazzling websites.
So I took a few classes that worked for me, now what? Well, I did what an honorable and responsible adult of our society would do – I canceled the rest of my courses and went shopping with a bit of my school refund. HA! That’s one great advantage of being a grown-up; you get to tell yourself whether you want to go to school or not.
Please, don’t misinterpret me – I value personal and professional development, I did learn several cool things, I will continue to seek education and, I will encourage you to do the same thing I did, to try that class you’ve always wanted to take and experiment to see if you like it or not – worst case scenario – you make some friends and you use your course fees and book receipts for a tax return next year.Win-Win!
As I heard in an amazing TED Talk this weekend – the most successful models are the ones based on trial and error. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and break the pattern! Get rid of that – “I wonder if I’d be good at this” – itchy thought. TRY IT AND FAIL or not! It’s better than not trying at all.
Now that we are having this awesome dialogue, would you fancy some illustrations? Yes you do!
Beautiful, pretty little patterns that will enchant your eyes by Danielle Kroll. A much-needed splash of color for the coming gloomy days.
