Valentine’s Day is just around the corner – and like I said before – I’m not a “let’s cuddle in bed and throw heart-shaped glitter at each other” kinda guy, ’cause seriously – who’s gonna clean that fucking mess?
I am more of a “let’s watch a movie and eat our face off!” kinda person (and I know you are too!). So, today I want to share with you 5 Artful Movies For Valentine’s Day. Movies filled with art, drama, love, color and sex. Sold? Thought so!
All these movies can be seen on Netflix and other online streaming sites. Ready? Get the lights! The show’s about to start:
Chuck Close: A portrait in progress Trailer
Love this movie/documentary about one of my – absolute favorite – contemporary artists: Chuck Close. His vision and talent goes beyond paintings and photographs. He is a true inspiration and his life story is very, very touching. Watch this movie and, surrender yourself to the urge of getting your art supplies out of the closet.
Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces) Trailer
What can I say – Penelope Cruz, Pedro Almodovar. A no-brainer, really. This movie is packed with beautiful cinematography, hilarious monologues, and heartbreaking moments. Just like a Spanish love affair – Los Abrazos rotos – will sweep you off your feet and take you through a whirlwind of emotions. Not suitable for puss… I mean, for the weak of heart ;)
Vicky Christina Barcelona Trailer
Another Spanish-inspired film. Javier Bardem is a total casanova that will knock your socks off (seriously, your screen will smell like a man – in a good way, not in a sweaty gym way…anyways..). Woody Allen did a great job at seamlessly mixing 3 (maybe 4?) different stories in one mighty lustful mess. Warming: you may want to book a trip to Barcelona right after you watch it, so keep Expedia away from you for a while.
L’Amour Fou Trailer
In this film, Pierre Bergé opens up about about his relationship with Yves Saint Laurent – the love, tragedy, and battles. Watch how this couple amassed an impressive art collection and what Pierre Bergé had to do after YSL passed away. The crazy-opulent factor of L’Amour Fou, takes daydreaming to a whole ‘notha level. Aah.. can you imagine waking up with a Picasso right in front of your bed? Yeah. The dirty laundry hamper doesn’t look so artful anymore.
Bill Cunningham New York Trailer
Bill Cunningham – one of the most famous fashion photographers out there – is THE master of street photography. He actually is sort of the “original Sartorialist”. I love how this movie shows how much he loves his craft – fashion, clothes and beauty are everything for him. He doesn’t care about celebs or the latest fashionista, he just cares about what’s happening out on the street (and them bitches can get their attitude back to the change room *zig-zag finger snap*). So refreshing!
Hope you enjoy these films! If you have any favorites, let me know, I’m always looking for new artsy flicks to watch. Happy weekend amigos.

I’ve only seen 2 out of the 5. Must rectify! We’ve been victims of a string of crap movies lately. These are going in my instant queue tonight for future date night-ins.
Thank you!
